Spyderco Slym
Spyderco Slym
SKU:C271TI
The Spyderco Slym continues the long collaborative relationship between Spyderco and famed Italian manufacturer LionSteel. This relationship started in 2012 with the LionSpy, which was a unique version of the LionSteel SR-1 model featuring a round Spyderco round opening hole instead of studs and two-piece handle construction with a solid slab of G10 meeting a solid slab of titanium, each forming half of the backspacer.
The LionSpy has since spawned a number of collaborative efforts between the two companies, including the Lil LionSpy and SpyOpera, and recent Flashbatches (limited run of a unique model) of the SpyMyto and SpyNano. All of these collaborative models are manufactured in Italy by LionSteel, who took home Knife of the Year awards at Blade Show Atlanta in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
The Slym is a Spyderco take on the LionSteel Skinny, designed Michele Pensato, with a Spyderco trademark round opening hole added. Also notable that this knife is an integral, meaning the handle is constructed of one solid piece of titanium with a channel milled out for the blade to go into. There are no body screws holding this together, it is all one piece. A beautiful piece of black-and-white Dark Matter Polar Fat Carbon Fiber is inlayed onto the show-side of the handle. Accenting the carbon fiber, the titanium is PVD coated in a matte grey color. There are two opening methods available, the larger Spyderco round hole and a flipper tab. Like many other LionSteel models, the flipper tab is removable. The pocket clip is similar to many other Spyderco/LionSteel collaborations, a modified version of the standard Spyderco clip that attaches on the butt-end of the handle and is reversible. A Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) secures the blade open, with a hardened steel insert that acts as the blade interface and an overtravel stop for the lockbar.
